Best Practice Review and Map

The Scenario

The increase in the sedentary nature of children and adolescents raises alarm. Only 34% of European adolescents aged 13 to 15 years are physically active at the recommended levels.

This contributes to the rise of overweight and obese children in Europe, especially among the weakest socio-economic groups. Based on the data collected by the “Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative”, conducted in Europe by the World Health Organization, almost 50% of children eight years of age are overweight and over 25% are obese.

In almost all European countries, levels of physical activity begin to drop significantly between eleven and fifteen years of age and this is especially true among girls: more than 86% of girls aged fifteen have been physically inactive.

WISE and the European policies concerning Sport

The project is aimed at encouraging participation in sport and physical activity, especially by supporting the implementation of the Council Recommendation on health-enhancing physical activity and being in line with the EU Physical Activity Guidelines.

Its main objective is to determine the influence of exercise and healthy lifestyle on body composition of young women aged 15-24 and to define a specific WISE Exercise Programme – a multidimensional model of dependence between body composition, lifestyle, and nutrition which would enable the programming of optimal patterns of behavior in life habits as a planned corrective measure and stimulate the young women in EU countries to avoid the drop out of sports.

WISE Best Practices

All information about the best practices in the map is included in the document below.

The Best Practices Reviews has been realised through the creation of database list of examples of promotion of gender equality in sports. The process of data collection has been carried out through a Survey in the 5 countries which are represented by the Consortium of Research: Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Serbia, Spain.

FILL IN WISE SURVEY

Interested in participating? We kindly ask you to fill the questionnaire out as completely as possible, particularly the descriptive lines which will give us a better insight into your sport activity.

Our working hypothesis is to build a “WISE Database” including a series of best practices, calculated on the basis of the criteria described below in 5 sections.

We have assigned a score to each of the 5 sections which are preceded by a General Info section. The score is the result of preliminary considerations regarding the coherence of the best practices in WISE project. Among these, here are the factors we want to take into consideration:

  • Involvement of 15/24 year old Girls/Young Women
  • Involvement of Sport Professionals (Coaches, Trainers, Instructors)
  • Involvement of Health Professionals (Nutritionists, Physiologists, Physiotherapists, Sport Psychiatrists and Psychologists)
  • Availability of Sport facilities for our target
  • Involvement of Decision Makers in sport, health and education fields.

Thank you very much for the time you’ll dedicate to this  questionnaire and thank your for sharing with us the information on your programme.
